By Brice Lalonde (former Minister of the Environment, President of Energy Balance)
It will soon be ten years since the Paris Agreement, representing the commitment of nations to limit global warming to less than 2°C before the end of the century, was signed. However, the Earth’s surface continues to warm, extreme events are more frequent. We must prepare for it, accelerate the exit from fossil fuels. This was not the issue of the elections in France, but it is the issue of the century.
The dissolution interrupted the parliamentary work that was supposed to determine the plan to combat climate change. The current texts are obsolete. They need to be updated. During the election campaign, summary proposals on energy were launched. Many were not realistic. The outcome of the elections does not clarify the situation, because the majority parties are in disagreement.
