From November 12th, to access pornographic sites it will be mandatory to certify that you are of age. The measure, introduced in Italy in implementation of a European Commission directive, aims to protect minors from the uncontrolled use of adult content. According to the Institute’s survey Demopolisdirected by Pietro Vento70% of Italians judge this choice necessary to protect the youngest. Just under a fifth, however, consider it one violation of privacy even for adults. Approval is highest among womenwith over 80% approval, while it drops to 58% among menuntil it touches the 49% among those under 35 years old.
Porn and teenagers: the “new sexual education”
The absolute majority of citizens believe that pornography has now become the main form of sex education for teenagers. A worrying fact: more than six out of ten kids they watch porn videos online. The 63% of those interviewed consider online pornography a actual danger to minorsa sign of a growing social awareness of the risks of sexuality learned in a distorted way, without educational or emotional filters.
Family and school: a shared task
The Demopolis survey also reveals the position of Italians on the issue ofsexual and emotional education. For the86% of the interviewees, this task falls first and foremost to the family. But for the 72% it must be too responsibility of the schoolwith training courses starting from mediums. In fact, two out of three Italians ask for it to be introduced effective sex education to respond to children’s curiosities and provide tools for mutual understanding and respect.
More awareness against gender violence
The 67% of Italians think that emotional education at school can help prevent gender violencecreating greater awareness among young people. Only the 19% instead, he fears that such paths may disorientate adolescents on gender differences during growth. A picture, the one outlined by Demopolis, which shows a divided but transforming society. While the internet continues to influence the way in which young people discover sexuality, Italy seems ready – at least in part – to reaffirm the educational role of adults, asking for more protection, more training and less silence.
