Prepare the support well, the key to success
Start by cleaning kitchen furniture. Before anything else, it is essential to properly clean the surface to be painted. Between dust and fat, kitchen furniture can be sticky, so you have to Washer carefully. Use a soda detergent (St-Marc detergent) to degrease in depth, then rinse with clear water. Some paintings recommend cleaning to acetone. This product being volatile, in this case, make sure to put enough on your cloth.
Now that your kitchen furniture is clean, you can sand them. In order for the material to hang better, it is recommended toslightly make the surface. The idea here is not to make a clear place to return to a raw material, but to keep the existing varnish, or the old paint, which will thus serve as a undercoat and avoid, on wooden furniture (especially oak), the possible ascent of the tannins which could stain the paint. Use a fine sandpaper (grain 180 or 240) to sand gently.
Which paint to use to repaint a kitchen furniture?
Today the Cuisine special renovation paintings allow you to easily repaint any surface, and can be applied both to furniture (wood, laminate, lacquered, etc.), as on a worktop, tiling or a credenza. From now on without underlayingthey are also designed to withstand stains, heat, friction, as well as detergents.
Paint your kitchen furniture
Apply two layers of paint
It is the golden rule for an optimal result that lasts. Using a small brush, start with the places that are difficult to access (angles, grooves …), then use a small roll to apply the paint on the flat surfaces. Choose it as smooth as possible (foam or short hair) to avoid any risk of traces. Respect drying time indicated before passing the second layer.
Consult the drying time
If the paint is quickly dry to the touch, it however puts more time to dry to heart. Count at least 3 weeks So that the matter has hardened in depth. During this period, handle your furniture carefully to avoid shocks that could mark the surface.
What are the steps to respect with a classic kitchen paint?
- Start by dismantling the doors of the cupboards, remove pimples and handles, then empty your cabinets and drawers.
- Wash the furniture with a stripping soap or a detergent solution to remove the residues and create a smooth base.
- Rinse the kitchen furniture with clear water and let it dry.
- Once the furniture is dry, sand them with sandpaper. Fill the imperfections with a coating.
- Remember to protect the furniture and the edges of the area to be painted with painter ribbon. Use sheets to protect the other parts of the part if necessary.
- Apply a wood or melamine underlay depending on the surface.
- Then prepare the paint for kitchen furniture. Open the pot and mix the paint with a wide baguette.
- Apply the first layer of paint with a lacquer roller, from top to bottom, crossing the passes. Paint the edges of the furniture with a roller too. Once the first layer is dry, polish the furniture for a nice finish.
- 3 hours after the first installation, put the second layer of paint, in cross passes for impeccable uniformity. Once the second layer is dry, remove the adhesive tape, reinstall your furniture and admire the result!
