For a long time, the pension rights related to children were mainly associated with mothers. This is still true for the four quarters granted under the maternitywhich accrue to them automatically. But for the rest, the rules have evolved. Since the reform that came into force for children born from 2010, the four quarters awarded under L’education can be divided between parents. On one condition: make your choice known within six months following the child’s fourth birthday. Otherwise, they are attributed to the mother.

It is precisely this lack of knowledge that most surprises Violaine Wallet, consultant in right to retirement at Mona Lisa Retraite. “I recover, for example, quarters for widowers who don’t think about that at all,” she says. When a father raises his child alone after the death of the mother and meets the conditions provided for by the texts, he can obtain up to four terms of education. Gold, “no one is going to propose to them spontaneously”she emphasizes. These rights are not automaticthey must be requested from the retirement fundand justified.

The 10% increase is not reserved for mothers

Another preconceived idea: pension increase of 10% for parents who have had or raised at least three children benefits both fathers and mothers. Everyone receives it from their own pension, provided they fulfill the criteria of diet with which he is affiliated. But the benefit is sometimes less generous than it seems. In the supplementary plansparticularly atAgirc-Arrcothe increase is capped and its calculation varies depending on the rights acquired. “Not all pension plans offer this additional 10%”recalls Violaine Wallet.

Another trap: believing that everything is automatic. You have to ask for retirement, at a minimum 5 months before the determined date, same for the survivor’s pension. At general dietfamily situation is generally taken into account when retirement liquidation thanks to the family record book. But certain increases or certain rights require additional supporting documents.

Check your rights before taking out your pension

These devices obviously do not replace a career complete. THE quarters linked to children improve the duration of insurance, but they do not, on their own, create a pension. Violaine Wallet cites the case of a mother of eight children who thought she would benefit from retirement comfortable before realizing that she had never contributed. “You still have to work a minimum”she recalls.

His advice therefore applies to both men and women: check your career record on Retirement infocheck that the rights linked to children have been registered and report any special situation to their fund. A few quarters forgotten may be enough to postpone the age of the full rate or to reduce the amount of the pension.
