Do you love tracking down good deals on Vinted? Be careful though, in the wonderful world of second hand, there is a piece that is better to let slip away otherwise you will regret it.

Buying second-hand has become a reflex for more and more consumers. Ecological, economical and often synonymous with unique finds, second hand has it all. Vintage clothes, luxury bags, almost new coats… the platforms and thrift stores are full of treasures. But amid all these good deals there is an item that is best avoided buying second-hand.

We know that the fashion industry is one of the most polluting in the world. Buying second-hand is therefore a smart way to extend the life of clothes and limit our environmental footprint. We all know this adrenaline rush: we scroll through Vinted, we wander through thrift stores, and suddenly love at first sight. The perfect cut, the color we’ve been looking for for months, the impeccable condition. We tell ourselves that it’s a sign from the universe, and we click without thinking. But some pieces have a more intimate past than it seems. Because clothing is not just a simple piece of fabric. It keeps track of the person who wore it: their smell, their shape… You use this item every day. It carries you, supports you, follows you everywhere, from the office to parties, from shopping to the beach. He endures the rain, the heat, the fatigue. But he is also the one who keeps, despite himself, the trace of everything he has experienced: the shape of your gait, the pressure of your steps, the warmth of your days. So, can you guess? Yes. Shoes are the one item of clothing that is really best avoided buying second-hand. Even though they look new, their insole has already molded to the shape of their first owner’s foot. By wearing them, you risk blisters, pain, imbalances… not to mention small invisible annoyances: bacteria, fungi, bad odors. Of course, there are exceptions, but as a general rule, it’s better to invest in a new pair.

Buy second-hand, yes, but with discernment. Clothes can be washed, bags can be disinfected, jewelry can be sterilized… But shoes keep the intimate memory of those who wore them.
