This is a question that burns on the lips of many students. “What will my salary be after my work-study program?”. Good news, the Ministry of Labor has the answer! Thanks to an update of the device InsertYouthmanaged by Dares* and Depp*, we now know the remuneration of former work-study students. A first, because the data was not not available so far. To do this, the two statistical institutes recorded the salaries of apprentices, vocational high school students and BTS students who completed their training in 2021 and found employment 12 months later, in July 2022. But be careful, these figures only concern the private sector. To find out the remuneration of former students who are now civil servants, we will have to wait until next year.
Small reminder: in alternation, there are two types of contracts. THE apprenticeship contractwhich is mainly aimed at young people aged 16 to 29 and which is based on sharing time between school and business, while giving the right to a recognized diploma. THE professionalization contractfor its part, primarily aims for professional integration with training more oriented towards the profession. But in practice, the two often work the same way: one foot in the classroom, the other in the business.
Work-study contracts: deputies reject the reduction in the salaries of apprentices
Among the best paid training courses, one specialty clearly stands out: that ofexternal operator in chemistry and energy. One year after the end of their training, these former work-study students receive a median salary of 3,060 euros net per month. In short, half earn even more! And for the lowest paid, the bottom of the scale (first quartile) still remains very comfortable, with a median salary of 2,920 euros net per month. A pay slip that would make many young graduates dream of their first job. Another telling example: the senior industrial maintenance technicianswho benefit from a median salary of 2,800 euros net per month and good prospects for advancement.
Not all training is equal
Beyond salary, this data allows us to know the employment rate for each training course, that is to say the share of graduates who found a job. The champions? Holders of a professional machine operator baccalaureate or a Technical BTS and services in agricultural equipment. 92% of them actually land a job in less than 12 months after leaving school. An almost guaranteed insertion, therefore. On the other hand, certain training courses struggle to attract the job market. Striking example: the CAP for textile care professions. There, barely more than one graduate in 10 (13%) finds a job in the year following obtaining their diploma…
