Don’t count on Sandrine Kiberlain to get too involved when it comes to politics or social facts. The actress starring in the film “Sarah Bernhardt, the Divine” assumes her media discretion.
The war in Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, the climate emergency or even the political crisis in France… Almost every day, a subject animates the debates. And the stars are asked to give their opinion too. If a large number of people willingly agree to express themselves, particularly on social networks, we should not count on Sandrine Kiberlain.
“I don’t think we’re legitimate.”
Speaking out on a current issue can quickly cause harm to the person who dares to speak out… An Omar Sy, for example, is regularly the victim of trolls and of haters on the Web when he talks politics. The same goes for Marion Cotillard who evokes ecology. So, inevitably, certain personalities prefer to keep a low profile. “Each personality is asked their opinion on political, environmental or social matters: the speeches are diluted, truncated, repeated incorrectly. And I don’t believe we are legitimate or relevant on all subjects“, assures Sandrine Kiberlain in Madame Figaro.
The 56-year-old actress, whose ex-husband Vincent Lindon never hesitates to invite himself into the public debate on subjects that are close to his heart, adds: “For my part, I chose to transmit my convictions through my profession: by embodying Sarah (the late and legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt, editor’s note)I defend what it represents and its commitments that I share.“
This only subject on which she engages
If she therefore does not want to comment on current events, Sandrine Kiberlain lacks neither convictions nor struggles. And there is a subject on which she speaks publicly: the fight against Alzheimer’s. “In fact, it’s illness in general that affects me. I have a very keen awareness of life which can change in a second (she suffered a stroke and a coma during the birth of her daughter, Suzanne, editor’s note). I’m not afraid of much because I have the impression that as long as we have our physical and mental abilities, we can fight“, she said to JDD in 2014.
And the star added: “I’m a fighter, I don’t give up easily. But, having experienced it, the illness can destroy you. Regarding Alzheimer’s disease, every year, with Pierre Souchon, we do a concert for research.”
