While money is a taboo subject in France, the ex-ragbyman Sébastien Chabal has no trouble tackling this thorny question.
This April 9, Guillaume Pley received on the set of Legend A man who is rare in the media: Sébastien Chabal. The former rugby player, now aged 47, lives in England and devotes his life to entrepreneurship. The opportunity for the sportsman to speak money.
Is Sébastien Chabal rich?
During his career in rugby, Sébastien Chabal has made a good life very well. “I won up to 700,000 or 800,000 euros per year … it’s huge”he said without eyeshadow. And it’s not just his wages as a sportsman who allowed him to build a little fortune: his advertising contracts too! “I did a lot of things: great things that have burst me, things a little less well at the same time. But I always chose them. It’s always dating stories. It’s not so much the brand, not so much the budget …”he said. Before adding: “I did things for a lot of money, shit, and I did things for nothing at all that was great”.
However, Sébastien Chabal never wanted to advertise his main income. “I have no agent, everything goes by me. Managing my image is not my main professional life (…) But if I had an agent I will earn 10 times more certainly. But what I do today suits me very well, I don’t have time to do more either, I don’t want to do a job in its own right”he conceded. Today, he is at the head of many business, such as a clothing brand and a chain of burgers open this year.
Sébastien Chabal Cash on his income: “Luxury is that in fact: it is not to have to count”
In 2007, Sébastien Chabal was elected the best paid French rugby player. A title that the father of Lily-Rose, 18, does not like to put on the carpet. “It’s good to be the most paid, but I would have preferred to have more titles and be less well paid”he assured.
But the one who has lived in England for several years is not hidden: “When we say that money does not make happiness, I think it is a beautiful bullshit. Not to worry, to be able to go to the restaurant, to be able to change the washing machine, to be able to change the car … I did not change much. I had a beautiful house, a little too big maybe. Luxury is that in fact: it is not to have to count. You know it can happen, it should happen.”
With his experience across the Chabal, Sébastien Chabal wanted to recall the good attitude of his compatriots with regard to money: “The Anglo-Saxons admire success, are interested in success but not to jealous. It is the big difference between our cultures (…) We would have to win all 500 balls and we all eat potatoes and everyone would be happy (…) We a guy who succeeds we have to hit him on the corner of the mouth “.
