In France, almost one in two adults suffers from a sleep problem (insomnia, rhythm disturbances …).
Sleep is at the heart of our lives. At 75, we will have slept… 25 years old, Or a third of our existence, hence the importance of preserving and pampering your sleep. In March 2026 will take place the 26th edition of the International Sleep Day in France and elsewhere in the world (in the United States for example). In France, this awareness day is organized by theNational Institute of Sleep and Vigilance (INSV). What are the events organized during sleep day in France? What purpose? Where to find out?
Date: When does sleep day take place?
To date, no official source (INSV or specialized sites) communicates the official date of the day 2026, but according to the established rule, we can reasonably consider that the National Sleep Day in France will take place on Friday March 13, 2026.
When was the sleep day created? By whom?
Sleep day was Created in 2000 by The National Institute of Sleep and Vigilance (INSV), An association that brings together natural and legal persons working in the register of prevention, awareness, health education, sleep, vigilance. It is a communication and prevention interface on sleep in France. In the United Statessleep day is organized by the World Sleep Society. Sleep day has a triple objective:
- Sensitize the public to the importance of sleep
- Promote screening sleep disorders (insomnia, sleepwalking, narcolepsy …) and recall that Care structures exist When sleep becomes pathological.
- Continue committed sleep disorders as an element of public health.
What was the theme of sleep day 2026?
The theme of sleep day in 2026 has not yet been revealed. In 2025, it was “when drowsiness and mental health met”. It was intended to highlight the importance of the links between drowsiness (driving during the day, chronic fatigue) – often more widespread than we imagine – and mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression.
Program: What to do for sleep day?
The National Institute of Sleep and Vigilance is implementing, each year, a Sleeping village digital which includes a card with organized actions, information on sleep problems, as well as advice to improve your sleep.
