– “These inequalities of income are explained first of all because some of these cities are home to the richest populations,” explains the observatory of inequalities.

There are “in France”rich ghettos“And” ghettos of poor “. But also cities where these two categories of extreme income coexist, with phenomenal differences in around twenty municipalities. Starting with Neuilly-sur-Seine (Hauts-de-Seine), according to the ranking of 20 cities with more than 20,000 most unequal inhabitants in terms of income, published by the Observatory of inequalities on June 3. In Neuilly, the 10 % D‘richest inhabitants have income 8 times higher that the poorest 10 %. By way of comparison, this report is only 3.4 For the whole of metropolitan France.

Another way to measure the income gap between these two Neuillian populations, the former earn at least 10,700 euros per month, against 1,320 euros at best for the latter. The capital arrives in second position in the ranking, the 10 % of the wealthiest Parisians, with at least 6,000 euros monthly, affecting 6.4 times more than the most modest 10 %, which receive a maximum of 940 euros per month.

15 of the 20 most unequal are Ile -de -France

The Paris region also concentrates 15 of the 20 most unequal cities in France. And a majority of them are found in Hauts-de-Seinelike Neuilly, therefore, but also Boulogne-Billancourt, Saint-Cloud, Levallois-Perret, Asnières-sur-Seine, Sèvres, Suresnes, Meudon, Colombes, Courbevoie or Clichy. In all these cities, income differences between the richest 10 % and 10 % the poorest go between 3,000 euros and more than 9,000 euros per month.

Apart from the “9-2”, we find Saint-Mandé (Val-de-Marne), Saint-Germain-en-Laye and La Celle-Saint-Cloud (Yvelines). Three cities where the richest income is, at least, five times higher than those of the poorest. In regions, the most unequal cities are Saint-Denis and Saint-Paul, ReunionAnnemasse in Haute-Savoiewhich points to third place in the ranking behind Neuilly and Paris, as well as Thionville and Nancy, in Lorraine.

Neuilly, the most unequal city because the richest

“These inequalities of income are explained first of all because some of these cities are home to the richest populations”explains the observatory of inequalities. This is evidenced by Neuilly-sur-Seine, the city of France most unequal in terms of income but also the richest in the country, with a median annual income of 4,000 euros per monthtwice as high as the national average of 1,920 euros. “The richest are extremely rich there”summarizes the report. The situation is similar to Saint-Cloud, (Hauts-de-Seine), seventh most unequal city and where median income amounts to 3,300 euros per month.

In Paris, the second most unequal city while the monthly median income is “only” of 2,500 euros, no less than 16% of the population lives under the poverty linetwice as much in Neuilly. If the capital is unequal, it is therefore because in addition to a very easy population, it houses a fairly large number of people particularly poor. A city can also be unequal “Because part of its population is very poor, that is to say that inequalities are widening from below”explains the observatory, citing Saint-Denis and Saint-Paul. The poorest inhabitants of these two Reunionese cities have very low income, around 760 euros per month at most. If the richest earn almost five times more, their monthly income does not exceed 3,500 euros on average. We are far from the summits of Neuilly or Saint-Cloud!
