From the Constituent Assembly to the “thaw” of 1958, it was the Catholics – from De Gasperi to Moro, from Dossetti to La Pira – who gave shape to the idea of ​​a judiciary autonomous from political power. The Superior Council of the Judiciary was thus born as a pillar of democratic balance, before that system began to crack under the weight of political and institutional transformations in the 1980s.
