Eurovision fans certainly remember him. And for good reason: Salvador Sobral, winner of the competition in 2017, still holds the record for the competition. The 35 -year -old Portuguese recently unveiled his intersexuality.
In 2017, Salvador Sobral scored the spirits of Eurovision aficionados. Not only has he won the 62nd edition of the prestigious competition with his song Amar Pelos owebut he especially became the very first Portuguese winner. Better still, he has held from the record for the greatest number of points never obtained with no less than 758 points.
Salvador Sobral Intersex: “I do not produce the hormone that determines my genre”
A very good victory which had however been marred a few months later when the artist, now 35 years old, announced that he had taken a break in his career because of a serious health problem. Affected by heart failure, Salvador Sobral had finally been grafted from the heart in December of the same year.
Since then, the singer-songwriter and performer has released two albums and continues to be talked about, especially on social networks where he is followed by no more than 200,000 people. But it’s in the podcast Watch.tmhosted by Portuguese humorist Pedro Teixeira da Mota, which Salvador Sobral revealed a few months ago. “I am intersex because I do not produce the hormone that determines my genre. My body does not produce testosterone”he revealed.

Asked about the unexpected discovery of his intersexuality, Salvador Sobral did not make any secrets about the signs that alerted him. “One day, I had the impression of becoming a woman, I had breast pain, my face started to round off and I had no more hairs.”he said. The United Nations also attributes intersexuality to people “Born with sexual characteristics that do not correspond to the typical definitions of ‘male’ and ‘female’.”
Married to Belgian actress Jenna Thiam, the Portuguese is the happy dad of a little girl, named Aïda, born in December 2022. On May 9, he unveiled a brand new opus, Sílvia & Salvadorin collaboration with the singer Silvia Perez Cruz. An album that they already defend in all the cities of Portugal.
Note that the final of the 2025 edition of Eurovision will be held on May 17, in Basel (Switzerland) and that the French candidate is the singer Louane, in competition with the title Mom.
