Prominent among the components of the current fragmentation of the world economy is the constitution of quasi-blocs based on geographical proximity or convergences of values or interests. The movement is accentuated by the combination of systemic shocks (pandemic and wars). According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, intra-bloc trade is growing significantly faster than global trade. The gap could last for a few years.
The Global South, despite the ambiguity of the notion, is today the image of solidarity between countries which, if it were accentuated, could lead to a real bloc. The BRICS represent the vanguard of this South. It is easier to agree on what we do not want than on what we do want. Many emerging countries reject American domination and the preponderance of the dollar, the privileges and values of the West, the asymmetries in favor of advanced countries in global governance (G7, G20, international organizations, etc.).
