Earthquake in the Middle East. The vast, massive Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear and military sites, in the night between 12 and 13 June, opens to an inevitable war scenario between the two countries. An operation, that of Israel, prepared for a long time, targeted, with the aim of destroying the sites of Tehran’s enrichment programs. More than one hundred objectives across the country were affected. In the attack, the Chief of Staff and the Guide of the Pasdaran (the revolutionary guards) Hossein Salami, as well as six nuclear scientists were killed. And Israel has announced that the operation will go on for all the necessary days.
The United States immediately broke from Israeli action, declaring that they have not been involved in this unilateral operation. Israel declared the state of emergency in the country and closed the airspace. For its part, Iran replied by launching a hundred drones against the Israeli territory and stating that the attack is equivalent to a declaration of war against Tehran.
The clash between Israel and Iran has destabilized and alarm the whole Middle Eastern region. Oman, where the new round of nuclear interviews between the United States and Iran was expected to take place next weekend, condemned the attack by warning that it could compromise diplomatic efforts (Tehran has already said that not to participate in the next interviews). Hard and firm condemnation also came from Qatar, from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, from Türkiye. by the Houthi of Yemen (financed and supplied by Tehran). China also said she was very worried about Israel’s attack. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that in his opinion this operation does not risk bringing a nuclear war closer or a world war and commented that now absolute priority is to work for the reduction of the escalation.
Why this attack right now? To explain it was the Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu In a speech broadcast on TV: «For decades the tyranni of Tehran have brazenly and openly invoked the destruction of Israel. In recent years Iran has produced Uranium enriched sufficient at nine atomic bombs. In recent months, Iran has never taken steps to make this enriched uranium bombs. ” Just the day before the attack, on June 12, The International Agency for Atomic Energy (AIEA) – founded in 1957 to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy – voted for a resolution against Iran declaring that Tehran does not respect the obligations set by the treaty of nuclear non -proliferation. Iran has always claimed not to want to produce an atomic bomb and to use the nuclear program for peaceful purposes. But his actions demonstrate anything else: in recent years he has impressed a strong acceleration to the program reaching 60% of uranium enrichment, Process that serves to produce nuclear energy for civil purposes, but which is also essential to build an atomic device. A level too high compared to that set by nuclear agreements and which would allow Iran to reach 90% in a short time (the threshold necessary to manufacture an atomic weapon). The agency accused Tehran of not having collaborated with international inspectors and of having hindered control actions on the sites. In short, the Iranian nuclear program undoubtedly represents a threat to the international community, starting with Israel, which Tehran wants – declaredly – annihilate. On the part of the AIEA it was the strongest position of the last twenty years.
