Mc 6,53-56 – Monday of the V Week of Ordinary Time
“And wherever he arrived, in villages or cities or countryside, they placed the sick in the squares and begged him to be able to touch at least the fringe of his cloak; and those who touched him were healed”.
This detail from today’s Gospel is interesting as it tells us about the way in which people constantly seek Jesus. It is above all the sick who seek him, that is, they are those who clearly feel a need, a weakness, a fragility. This does not mean that faith is born where there is desperation, but that faith, that is, the true relationship with Christ, is born where we clearly remember that we are creatures.
When we experience a trial, a weakness or a fragility, all of this puts our being as creatures before our eyes. When you remember that you are a creature, you can finally be face to face with your Creator too. But when you don’t remember that you are a creature, then you think that you are God, you think that you are the Creator. It almost seems banal reasoning, but you can live an experience of faith where you accept being human and let God truly be God. Only in this way does God’s power fully manifest itself in your weakness.
If we were to make a human and relational comparison, we should say that a child enjoys being a child only when he accepts being a child and does not replace his mother or father. If a child has to parent his parent, then his childhood turns into hell. Likewise in spiritual life, if we put ourselves in God’s place and want to keep everything under control and govern all of life, then this existence of ours turns into hell, even if we have a lot of power, a lot of money and occupy important positions.
