“Excellent advice”, “it works wonderfully” … A ploy to reproduce without moderation for any number!
In an ultra-connected company, no one remembers a phone number by heart. Even adults have trouble. So, when it comes to teaching a child a series of 10 digits, the test can quickly turn to the headache. However, this little learning can be crucial in the event of a glitch. An oversight, an accident, an extinguished phone: a grain of sand is enough for a child to need to reach his parents in an emergency. This is all the more important for young children who do not yet have a phone. School outings, birthdays or journeys with a boyfriend are not without unforeseen events. And when a child finds himself alone, knowing how to call his parents can make all the difference.
Before, we recited the phone numbers as poems. The fixed of grandparents, that of the house, that of the best friends. Today, children click on a name in a repertoire, and that’s it. Compose a number? It is no longer in reflexes. Result: they have no way to join us without their device. And this is where the question arises: how to make them hold this damn number? Some have bet on rehearsal. A user of Reddit tell : “I still remember the old phone number of my big brother because he took me to the water park one day and he made me recite 300 times in an hour.” Radical, but not frankly motivating.
Others have opted for music. A mom put her own issue in song. Result : “She sings it all the time”, writes a surfer. And then there is this idea. The one that makes everyone say “But of course!” : “Your child needs to memorize a phone number? Use him as a lockout of his tablet”, says another user. Indeed, when it comes to accessing something that interests them, children have more memorization faculties.
The idea immediately hit the bull’s eye. “Excellent advice”, commented a mom. “I have a 9 year old daughter with serious working memory deficits, but an astonishing ability to remember things that allow her to access what she wants.” Other parents have confirmed: “Yes, it works wonderfully. My children have finally memorized my phone number”. So no, this is not a method approved by all cybersecurity experts. But to transmit a single number to remember in an emergency, it is a compromise that many parents are ready to do.
