A drawn, lively, bright mouth, without spinning in fine lines? It is possible thanks to this stunning technique.
Lipstick is a real style marker, but its application requires some adjustments with age. An American pro makeup artist, known to shake up the injunctions made to women over 50, offers a tip that changes everything. And that has nothing to do with what you know.
The professional in question is Nikol Johnson, a former model who has become a makeup and influencer beauty full time. His credo? Revaluate the face as it is, without trying to camouflage everything. And above all: no longer believe that we must give up bright colors, brilliant or eyeliner spent 50 years. “Once you are 40 years old, you are told to stay in your corner. No red lips. No iridescent eyeshadow. No eyeliner. Stay quiet”she launches. She is not content to denounce these received ideas: she dismantles them methodically, brush in hand.
In one of her recent tutorials, she details complete makeup designed for mature skin. Preparation of the skin, targeted correction, moisturizing base, BB cream with Glowy finish, fog sail for a fresh effect … Nothing is left to chance. But the moment that makes her community react the most is when she arrives at the lip stage. Because it is there that she takes out her secret weapon. A technique when she reverses everything. And it works.
Why does this inversion work so well? Because with age, the skin around the mouth becomes finer, more prone to fine lines and that matt or very pigmented textures tend to mark more. However, when you first apply a brilliant base, a golden gloss type, and you then tap over a lively shade, the effect changes radically. The mouth keeps its definition, but the rendering is blurred, softer, almost blurred. The shine of the gloss hydrates visually, attenuates the folds and the red, instead of freezing the lines, gives them a luminous shot without appearing plated.
No need for extreme precision: applying the color over the brilliant helps prevent clear demarcations. The whole thing melts naturally and holds well. “Lips after 50 years just need a little more light and sweetness, not less color”she concludes.
