The National Museum Science and Technology proposes the first edition of the Creative Learning Festival, Two days entirely dedicated to creative learning, designed and co-planned together with the founders of the Tinkering Studio of the San Francisco Explortorium, a pioneer scientific museum and one of the most important in the world, and the Lifelong Kindergarten Group of the Mit Media Lab Boston, a place of research and innovation that boasts the creation of Scratch, the Coding Community of used today by used by the Coding. 40 million girls and boys in 200 countries.

The international festival is made possible thanks to the partnership with Bolton for Education Foundation, a foundation specialized in education which since 2020 has been carrying out initiatives aimed at contributing to guaranteeing an accessible, quality and future education.

The event, free on registration, will be held on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 October With the aim of exploring the new frontiers of education. It is aimed at the world of school, informal, adult education and researchers, cultural institutions and policy makers. Two days of workshops, moments of dialogue, continuous cycle activities and conferences in which experts and experts in pedagogy, science and art discuss and experience creative learning, namely Practices, approaches and tools to make it clear the “daily creativity”, individual and collective, which is found in all of us and in all learning processes.

During the plenary, the main creators and curators of the Festival will present the program and introduce the key themes. Will intervene: Fiorenzo Marco Galli – General Manager Museum; Paola Pierri – General Manager of Bolton For Education Foundation; Luciana Volta – Director of the Lombardy Regional School Office; Mike Petrich – Educator, designer and co -founder of Tinkering Studio at the San Francisco Exploratorium; Maria Xanthoudaki – Education & Crea Museum director.

In 2020, creativity was recognized by the European Commission as a fundamental competence, essential for learning throughout the arc of life, for innovation and for the ability to respond to social challenges. In this context, creative learning – understood as an approach capable of enhancing divergent thought, experimentation, individual cultural capital and personal expression – imposes itself as an urgent and necessary paradigm.
The international festival is therefore a unique opportunity for professional development and networking with the aim of offering A space for reflection on the role of creativity in learning, in particular in the STEM field. Among them are: Mike Petrich & Karen Wilkinson – Founders of the Tinkering Studio of the San Francisco Explorerium; Carmelo Presicce – researcher at the Lifelong Kindergarten Group of the Mit Media Lab; Gever Tilley – writer, educator, entrepreneur, computer scientist and founder of Tinkering School; Tim Hunkin – Engineer and Inventor; Machiel Veltkamp – Media Artist, whose presence at the Festival is supported by the Embassy and Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; Heather King – Scientific Education Professor at King’s College London; Toshio Iwai – Author of books for children and educator, he is among the most recognized Japanese artists; Pino Boero – Vice -president of the Fantasy Park of Omegna, for Gianni Rodari; Andrea Lupi – Director of the Montessori Italia Foundation; Maestro Capone & Bungt Bangt; Penny Hay – Professor of Imagination at the University of Bath Spa; Teresa Grange – Experimental Pedagogy Professor at the University of Valle d’Aosta.

Since 2009, through Crei – Research Center for informal education, the museum has conducted educational research on innovative methodologies, promotes education projects at the STEM and organizes training courses for about 650 educators per year. Thanks to this long experience, The museum is today a reference hub in Italy and Europe for informal and museum education, aNCC thanks to the introduction and experimentation of distinctive educational approaches such as EQUIRY-BASED Learning, Tinkering or the Future Inventors method, developed by the museum.

activities for the public

On the occasion of the Creative Learning Festival, Saturday 11 October from 15 to 17, the museum offers the public of the museum an afternoon of activities dedicated to all age groups, to experiment together with creativity as a learning tool. The program sees the participation of international professionals and artists who guide the participants in original experiences between technology, visual arts and invention.
With Carmelo Presicce, Carolina Rodeghiero and Mike Petrich it will be possible to explore the educational potential of Coding Thanks to Octostudio, the app developed by the Mit Media Lab to create stories, animations and video games directly from smartphones. Toshio Iwai, a famous Japanese author and media artist, will accompany the little ones in the collective construction of La Casa at 100 floors, transforming the imagination into a vertical world populated by creatures and fantastic objects.
The day continues with Stravaganti machines, the laboratory conducted by Ryan Jenkins to invent imaginative mechanical devices with recycled materials; With Tim Hunkin, who will surprise participants showing how to transform a bag of chips into a speaker; and with the collective Fake clandestine books, which will lead a self -production workshop of fanzine by combining paper and digital tools. Finally, thanks to Interaction-Sound-Music-Movement of the Ircam-Stms and the MotionLab of the CRI in Paris, boys and girls will be able to live a unique experience with Como · Education, which transforms body movements into sounds to tell stories interactively and engagingly.
All activities are by reservation and included in the entrance ticket to the museum.
