From September, these small animals invest the roofs to prepare for winter and it is important to detect their presence to avoid damage.

A discreet but often ignored phenomenon begins in the roofs of many houses in September and a verification is essential! Because undesirable can not only cause noise and material nuisance, but also weakening the insulation of your home and cause infiltration in the roof. But what beasts is exactly and how to protect it?

The month of September marks the return of fresh temperatures. The animals then do not hesitate to use many subterfuges to anticipate the winter months. All take advantage of the freshness of the fall to look for a hot and dry refuge. But what intruders are it? These are the ladies, the shaves, sometimes bats or even wasps. The rodents excels to sneak into the smallest interstice and can nibble the insulation like the frame. The wasps, they build their nests sheltered from the wind and risk invading the house in the beautiful days. As for bats, they come together in colonies in the attic, noisy and invasive. This is why September is the ideal month to check your roof.

How should we proceed? Outside, observe the tiles, the gutters and the possible cracks by which animals could infiltrate. Inside, explore the attic with a lamp: oily traces, droppings, moved insulation or scratching in the wood are all alert signals. In the evening, hold out: repeated noises often reveal a presence.

To avoid their installation, a few simple gestures make the difference. Split the interstices and cracks that can be used as a passage, securely fix the displaced tiles, and regularly check the state of the gutters and ventilation. Also store food reserves (dried fruits, kibbles, seeds) that could attract rodents. Finally, cut the branches that are too close to the roof: they serve as ideal bridges for the Fouines or the Loires.

If you discover a nest of wasps, the intervention of a professional is essential for security reasons. For rodents, soft methods exist: capture traps to release them in the wild, natural repellents based on mint or sage, or ultrasonic devices. And if significant damage is already visible, it is better to call on a craftsman who will be able to repair and secure the roof.

A simple control in September can avoid noise pollution, savory invoices and a disturbed winter. Inspecting your roof is to protect your house sustainably against unwanted roommates.
