Summer work is back on the Ile-de-France transport network. Metros, RER, trams, transiliens, and even the new cable car… In all, 13 lines will undergo total or partial closure during the summer period. Here are all the details you need to know to anticipate your journeys.
It’s the same story every year: the Ile-de-France transport network takes advantage of the lower summer traffic to modernize its lines. As a result, numerous works are planned, involving the partial or total closure of certain axes. For Parisians and tourists alike, getting around the capital and its surrounding areas in the middle of summer can become a real headache… especially when you haven’t anticipated these problems.
For this 2026 season, SNCF, RATP and Île-de-France Mobilités are already warning: it is better to reduce your journeys as much as possible, stay teleworking, favor cycling or walking when possible, or at least plan alternative routes to avoid unpleasant surprises. Especially since this year, the work will take “an unprecedented scale” with heavy construction planned on no less than four metro lines and almost the entire RER network, but also on certain tram and transilien lines. Here are the specific dates to remember.
Metro closing dates
For each impacted line, the dates, times, sections and stations closed vary. Metro 4 will be interrupted between the Les Halles and Montparnasse-Bienvenüe stations for a large part of the month of July, from the 6th to the 24th. The stop at République station via line 8 will no longer be served from July 22 until April 2027, while the section between Concorde and Balard will be closed for one week, from August 20 to 27. Line 12 will be interrupted between Concorde and Jules Joffrin stations.
Users of line 13 will see their journeys particularly disrupted. The Châtillon-Montrouge terminus will be completely closed from July 6 to 26. The same goes for the Porte de Vanves station, which will be inaccessible between August 6 and 9. The entire northern section between La Fourche and Saint-Denis – Université will be blocked for more than two weeks, from July 31 to August 17. Worse still, the line will be closed in its entirety on Sundays August 2, 16 and 30 until noon.
RER closing dates
RER side, except the E line on which no closure is planned, all lines will be impacted at one time or another. The Nation judgment via the RER A will not be served for almost the entire summer, from June 29 to August 30, and traffic will be interrupted between Vincennes and Noisy-le-Grand Mont d’Est also for a long period from July 8 to August 23. The northern part of the RER B will not be affected, but major work is planned on the southern branches: traffic is interrupted between Bourg-la-Reine and Gare du Nord from July 25 to August 6, then between La Croix de Berny / Robinson and Gare du Nord, from August 7 to August 16.
Same story for those who take the western branches of the RER C : from July 15 to August 22, it will be impossible to travel between Paris Austerlitz station and the three termini Pontoise, Saint-Quentin en Yvelines or Versailles-Château Rive Gauche. Finally, on the RER Dno trains will run within Paris intramuros (between Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon) during the period from July 25 to August 16. On these same dates, the situation will be very complicated on the northern part of the line: trains between Creil and Gare du Nord will not stop at the Stade de France – Saint-Denis station, while the others will have this station as their terminus.
Closing dates for trams and transiliens
For those who would like to rely on the tram, don’t count on it. At least, not on the first two lines. T1 is already closed between the Asnières – Quatre Routes and Gare de Saint-Denis stations, until July 12. From the next day and until August 28, the closed section extended to La Courneuve station on May 8, 1945. The other side of the line was also affected for three months: the tram would not run between Bobigny – Pablo Picasso and Noisy-le-Sec station from June 1 to August 31. Concerning T2the line will be closed between Puteaux and Charlebourg from July 13 to August 23. For his part, the new C1 cable car will be completely interrupted from August 3 to 13.
The Transilian network will be relatively spared from the work. The K line will however be interrupted between Gare du Nord and Mitry-Claye from July 25 to August 16. Same for the P line : from July 13, trains will no longer run between La Ferté-Milon and Meaux until August 9, and also between Coulommiers and Tournan until August 23. For his part, the H line will not be closed but disrupted between July 25 and August 16, where traffic will be reduced during rush hour.
