At 62 years old, Laurent Ruquier can boast of having had a brilliant career which has made him a rich man. But he does not forget his modest origins and, above all, he does not complain about paying a lot of taxes…
Producer, playwright, TV and radio host… Laurent Ruquier has always been a workaholic and it has paid off in his career. Two years before the legal retirement age, he does not plan to hang up (yet) but is already taking full advantage of his financial comfort.
Laurent Ruquier earns a very good living: “On economic issues, I remain on the left”
Questioned at length by Paris Matchon the occasion of the publication of the book Ruquier, secret lives as her friend Marcela Iacub wrote, the host of T18 answered all the questions without tongue in cheek. Starting with money. If he readily recognizes that he now has real points of divergence with the left on “certain social issues which go beyond (it)“and that he has”sometimes the feeling of becoming a reactive old fart“, Laurent Ruquier, on the other hand, remains deeply anchored on this side for the rest. “But on economic issues, I remain on the left. I think we can do better for modest people. And, contrary to what these people believe, it is not Marine Le Pen who will help them“, he said.
And don’t think that the host, whose fortune is counted in millions of euros – he who notably owns a large apartment in Paris and a mansion facing the sea in Normandy – complains at the idea of paying taxes. “Above all, I try to be generous, to share with my friends (he regularly invites his comrades from RTL’s Grosses Têtes to travel alongside him, editor’s note), for example… Also, I redistribute with taxes. I’ve never complained about paying for it. They won’t bury me with my money.“
Laurent Ruquier born into a modest family with a “stingy” mother
The host and ex-companion of Hugo Manos was born in Le Havre, into a very modest family. On top of that, he was not a wanted child and his mother, Raymonde, never hid it, going so far as to regret not having taken the pill sooner…”For Laurent, avarice is the capital sin. He has an almost abnormal generosity, which turns into an imitation. Certainly because his mother was really stingy, to the point that she didn’t want to invite Laurent’s brothers and sister for lunch“, confides Marcela Iacub in this cross-interview.
Laurent Ruquier may live today as a rich person, but there is no question of forgetting his family roots. “I have always been from the same world as them. Even though I know that I am privileged, that I have a standard of living well beyond that of the average French person. But I never considered it normal. Unlike many people in this profession who think they live within the norm, and that it is the public who would not be there“, he added.
