The 98th edition of the Oscars will take place on March 15 in Los Angeles. Do you know which actress received the most awards at this prestigious ceremony?

A few days before the 98th Oscars ceremony, organized at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, the excitement is at its height. Among the highly anticipated categories, that of Best Actress. While all eyes are on this year’s favorites like Jessie Buckley (for Hamnet) or Emma Stone (for Bugonia), it’s the perfect opportunity to take a step back in time. Between records of statuettes, rain of nominations and extraordinary destinies, who are the true queens of Hollywood?

If there was only one name to remember, it would be hers… With 4 Oscars for Best Actress, this late actress still holds the record. From his first coronation in 1934 for Morning Glory at his last in 1982 for The Lake Houseshe has spanned the ages and become a true legend of the 7th Art. She was also crowned for Guess who’s coming to dinner? in 1968 and for The Lion in winter in 1969. Moreover, she is still the only one – men and women combined – to have won four statuettes for a leading role. You will have recognized Katharine Hepburn. But the late actress wasn’t a big fan of the awards and never came to collect her prizes!

On the other hand, the ultimate champion of the nominations remains the undeniable and popular Meryl Streep. With no less than 21 nominations, the star of Devil wears Prada is the most quoted actress in history. But she “only” won 3 victories during the ceremony. Another record to note is that of perseverance held by the legendary Elizabeth Taylor.

If she won two statuettes during her career (for films The Mink Venus And Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf?), it is a very specific record that fascinates cinema historians: its consecutivity. Between 1958 and 1961, Elizabeth Taylor was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress four years in a row. A rare performance that proves she was not just an amethyst-eyed beauty icon, but a hard worker.

Among men, the 2026 Oscars ceremony will also be exciting since the young actor Timothée Chalamet – in the midst of controversy because of his criticized comments on opera and ballet – could well put an end to the record held since 2012 by a Frenchman…
