A commune in northern Italy attempts an original seduction operation: it offers a premium to those who agree to settle there permanently and work on site. The goal: to repopulate the territory and relaunch the local economy.

An Italian town thinks she has found a compromise: it offers to welcome new residents under the age of 40, ready to settle there definitively and work there. In exchange, it offers them a bonus of almost 6,000 euros. An aid thought not as a punctual reward, but as a little boost to start from scratch, in a still preserved corner of urban pressure.
The initiative clearly aims to counter the double phenomenon which strikes many Italian territories: the departure of young people and the shortage of skilled labor. The system is simple: anyone who undertakes to live on site and to work in a local company receives, in addition to their salary, an additional more than 1,900 euros per year, for three years.
This represents almost 6000 euros in total, paid in the form of vouchers to spend only in shops (hello spritz, pizzas and other pasta Deliziosa)City craft services or companies. In other words, there is no question of pocket money and spinning elsewhere. You have to settle, work and consume local. The city in question? Varèse, in northern Italy, 60 kilometers from Milan. A town surrounded by hills, natural spaces and a small peaceful lake.
“We are aware that this measure alone cannot solve problems”, recognizes Mauro Vitiello, president of the local chamber of commerce. The program primarily targets young workers, families and persons in retraining.
