Dramatic as can be, it resembles a disguise that one would wear to embody the officers and soldiers of the 18th century. It is also anchored in its fashion DNA to play comedy: it is indeed part of the trend New Romanticswhich emerged at the end of the 1970s in the United Kingdom. The latter consists of combining dramatic pieces from different historical periods, in order to make a joyful poetic mixture against the nihilism of Punks and the socio-political pessimism of yesteryear. A return that is more than relevant in today’s world, marked by a sluggish economy, the rise of conservatism, and armed conflicts hitting various countries.
THE New Romantics thus dig into the wardrobe of the Victorian era (19th century), in the Rococo style (18th century), with frilly poet’s shirts, imposing headgear to dazzle the entire court and hussar jackets often in velvet. Like their colleagues in Glam Rockthey pair said jacket with dramatic and glamorous hair and makeup.
Throughout the decades, many other celebrities have incorporated the officer jacket into their style.
