Here we are in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, on the top floor of a Haussmann building, with elevator. Rented as is, this studio was however gloomy and was not at all optimized. The owners of the premises, a couple who live on the second floor, already knew the Murs ont des Oreilles team well, made up of Valérie Laporte Volatier, decorator and founder of the agency, the DPLG architect Charlotte Soissons Lenormand and the architect and decorator Brice Bourdon. These young retirees had already entrusted them with the renovation of their apartment as well as that of their daughter. Eager to do things according to the rules of the art, they wanted to recover the attic to enlarge this maid’s room and thus be able to rent it out. Another blocking point and not the least: the DPE. In order to lower the grade from G to D, extensive thermal and sound insulation work, inside and out, had to be implemented. A costly but necessary operation.
A significant demolition phase to start again on a healthy basis
In order to recover the attic height in order to install a mezzanine, the intervention of a structural engineer was necessary to ensure the feasibility of the project. Once the calculations were made, everything was in order and the construction site could begin. Once the pile of rubble had been cleared, the mezzanine was able to see the light of day, but it was not high enough to accommodate sleeping. No matter, it has turned into a very convenient storage space. Formerly in a corridor, the kitchen now opens onto the living room and the bathroom has also been given a makeover, with a washing machine as an added bonus. Customized storage has been integrated into the four corners of the apartment to avoid accumulation that is not conducive to a small space like this. As for the offices, they remained on the landing but were given a makeover. In order to stick to the inspirations of their clients, the professionals at Murs ont des Oreilles went with something quite simple, in a palette of neutral tones capable of pleasing everyone.
