From magazines to the trendiest interiors, it’s everywhere. But in reality, this piece of furniture is complicated to have at home for many reasons. Here’s what to replace it with to finally have peace of mind.

It alone embodies a certain idea of timeless chic, a visual lightness that seems to defy the laws of physics. It is sold to us as the perfect element to enlarge the space, bring clarity and play the card of minimalist elegance without a false note. But once the excitement of the purchase subsides, the reality is often much duller than the catalog promise.

This is the paradox of museum objects: magnificent in the spotlight, but formidable as soon as we dare to live around them. We let ourselves be seduced by this airy silhouette which does not overload the room, ideal for highlighting a graphic rug or herringbone parquet flooring. But in real life, that of rushed breakfasts and aperitifs with friends, the idyll quickly turns into a domestic nightmare. What should have been a breath of modernity becomes a source of permanent stress, a daily chore that no one wants to inherit.

Behind his apparent purity lies in reality a domestic tyrant. The glass table, since it is it, is the false friend par excellence of our interiors and it has disappointed more than one, including Antoine Costel. Creator of decorative content followed by 208,000 people, he complained about it a few months ago in a story on his Instagram account: “The glass table was too small and really the daily marks on the glass I do not recommend AT ALL”.

Under her appearance of absolute transparency, she forgives nothing. The slightest fingerprint turns into an indelible stain against the light, the slightest glass placed without a coaster resonates like a clap of thunder and leaves a halo. Without forgetting its colossal weight which makes the slightest movement perilous, and this fragility: we end up living with the constant fear of the impact which would shatter this mirror of perfection.

So, before succumbing to this room, ask yourself the question: do you prefer a living room that looks stunning or a space where you can put your cup without taking out the microfiber cloth? If design must serve life, this choice seems to have forgotten its primary mission. In order to keep your mind light, we therefore advise you to favor more organic materials, such as wood, which is capable of aging without ruining our lives.
