This toll system promised more fluidity, but it unwittingly traps motorists.
When you hit the road to go on vacation, you don’t suspect a single second that you can be the victim of a scam, simply driving. And yet, some crooks target motorists, especially at the time of summer departures. We have all already heard of scams at the scams with expensive false tires, false convenience stores, false police officers – on -handed combins to extract a maximum of money from the victims. But a new process has appeared and it targets the highways directly.
Why these roads in particular? Because a recent toll system is gradually setting up: free flow toll. Goodbye the barriers, now the gantries are equipped with cameras capable of detecting license plates or the telepal badges, without the vehicles needing to slow down. Tested for the first time on the A79, in the Allier, he then settled on the A14 and the A13. The primary objective is to streamline road traffic. As for payment, it is made after passing, online or at an approved merchant, within 72 hours. But what the authorities had not anticipated is that crooks were going to use it to develop a new scam.
This time, the crooks pretend to be Vinci Autoroutes, one of the main motorway operators in France, or Ulys, the Vinci payment platform. Their method: send a fraudulent email en masse, without worrying about whether the person has really borrowed the highway in recent days. It doesn’t matter after all, because they bet on surprise and urgency. The subject of the message generally sets the tone immediately : “Last recall: balance of 6.80 euros unpaid to toll“. The sender even seems credible, since it is displayed as” Vinci payments management “.
Once this message is read, the victim is invited to “settle immediately” his invoice by clicking on a fraudulent link. This refers to a false site which takes up the same design as the Ulys platform. Everything is done to deceive the victim and encourage him to seize his bank details. If it does, the trap has then taken! Schools can then use your information to make purchases online, steal money or resell data on clandestine platforms. All, in a few minutes, without the victim realizing it.
To avoid being trapped, ULYS recommends always check the address of the sender. “An e-mail Ulys or Vinci Autoroutes will always end with the domain name below: @ulys.com, @vinci-autoroutes.com, @services.ulys.com, @customers.ulys.com, @contact.ulys.com, @email.vinci-autoroutes.com, @e.ulys.vinci-autortes.com, @inquiste.vinci-autortes.com”, Indicates the company on its site. As well as checking the reliability of the site, open via the email link. “Our websites are secure and always start with https: // and a” padlock “appears just before or after this address”. This summer therefore, redoubled a vigilance so as not to be defrauded!
