Who doesn’t dream of towels as soft as when they’ve never been used before? There is a simple trick to do this.
No one likes getting out of the shower and having to dry off with a rough towel. Unfortunately, even the softest store models often become less plush after a few washes, and it doesn’t take much for them to become even a little too scratchy. However, this is not inevitable! A simple tip when hanging out your laundry allows the towels to fluff up and be much softer.
It only takes a few seconds to dry the laundry, yet few people think about doing this far from trivial gesture. Generally speaking, towels are made of cotton and this fabric is ideal for absorbing moisture when you get out of the shower while being very breathable thanks to the tiny air pockets that make it up. When you use a towel or put it in the machine, these air pockets are crushed and the fabric becomes denser and less pleasant. To relax the fiber, air must be reintegrated into the heart of the fabric. How ? Simply by shaking the towel energetically. Do the test at home by comparing one towel shaken with another on the drying rack and you will see the difference. The shaken towels are much more puffy while the others remain flat.
To keep towels soft, it is also advisable not to use fabric softener, as it is actually counterproductive. By sitting on the fibers and overloading them, it reduces the absorbency of the towels. They will then also take longer to dry and this can create bad odors. It is therefore better to use a little white vinegar during the rinse cycle. This product will neutralize the effects of too hard water, often the cause of rough towels.
To recover slightly old towels, you can try a bath of hot water and white vinegar to remove product residue and limescale. Then wash them in the machine before shaking them for a few minutes.
