What if a simple little machine could help you reduce the stress of everyday tasks? This is the observation of a psychologist who encourages taking action to lighten the mind.
Cleaning, tidying up, shopping and thinking about everything in the house. Daily life can quickly be drowned out by household tasks which accumulate and occupy a large part of the mind. We then often look for organizational solutions that allow us to lighten the mental load and find a calmer mood. Good news, a simple little device could make a difference in everyday life at home. It only costs a few euros and promises to see more clearly, more quickly and without much effort.
In just a few minutes the living room, kitchen, bedroom and all the closets will be much more organized. Eleanor Bryant, psychologist at the University of Bradford, explains why it works so well for the home: “the older we get, the more stressful it becomes to look for things stored in the wrong place.” According to her, tidying up is much more than a trend because science has confirmed that the brain benefits from it. One way to create a calm and controlled home is to clearly identify and organize belongings.
Concretely, a simple label maker works miracles around the house. The psychologist then speaks of a mini-victory: printing and sticking a label on a kitchen pot or a storage box is a small accomplishment that releases dopamine and begins a virtuous circle. Objects in the house are easily identifiable and we spend less time looking for our belongings. Each labeled object will also find its place more easily in the right room and will therefore be easier to store.
With this in mind, printer and label maker brand Brothers asked organizational professional Hazel Burton to share the best way to use a label maker to reduce the mental load at home on a daily basis. She thus cites simple gestures that are easily applicable, such as identifying the different charging cables or remote controls in the house. She also suggests noting the purchase or expiry dates on kitchen and bathroom products. In the fridge, the label maker can be used to create areas to better organize and visualize everything at a glance: “leftovers”, “preparation”, “breakfast”, “dessert”… Finally, it encourages you to prepare outfits for the week with hangers labeled by day to save time.
By stimulating planning, categorization and creativity, the simple labeling activity is a fun way to take care of yourself and save valuable time every day.
