It is found in all interiors and many textiles have taken advantage of this little extra something. Obsolete for some, they are making a comeback and here is how to adopt them without fuss. Decryption who didn’t steal it.
If fashion adopted them first, ruffles do not shy away from their pleasure in (re)enhancing our decoration. As fun as they are elegant, these pleated and gathered fabric trims make our household and bed linen twirl with softness and good humor.
No longer hide these ruffles that I can’t see
This is a trend that we have seen emerge and be confirmed during the press presentations, during which we set out to discover the new decorative collections. And, proof of the (re)emerging craze for ruffles, Etsy, the sales platform dedicated to creators from around the world, has noted a 35% increase in searches for ruffled bedding over the last three months (versus the same period in 2022).
Additionally, Etsy trends expert Dayna Isom Johnson explains it this way: “Gingerbread Girl is that charming, whimsical, nostalgic trend – cottagecore’s baking-loving sister – that invites us to return to a simpler, healthier lifestyle…and a fan of baking of course! To achieve this spirit, embrace warm tones, cozy textures, antique decors and vintage pieces.” No wonder ruffles are on the rise again!
How can you honor them without a lack of taste in your home?
Aerial, the frills immediately give scale and will bring movement to somewhat rigid interiors. A welcome touch of lightness in a hectic world which has made our homes safe places, where we take pleasure in taking refuge. Retro bohemian, they distill their cocooning style baby b(l)oomer aesthetic in the four corners of the house. Small or large ruffles enhance bedding sets, from the duvet cover to the pillows and even go so far as to associate with placemats, tablecloths and tea towels. As for the materials, the ruffles like the cottonTHE linen or the velvetif temperatures drop.
But be careful do not fall into the cliché of the little house on the prairie. To do this, our advice is to abandon the ruffled armchair or sofa covers, which are a little too grandmotherly, and to place the cursor carefully so as not to fall into kitsch. In short, ruffles are yes, but sparingly!
