Looking for inspiration for your next appointment at the hair salon? We sought the advice of a hairdresser to find out what is the best cut to adopt after 50. Answer below.
As we age, we evolve physically. But taking care of yourself remains a motivation, so it’s not uncommon for us to try to find THE look that will suit us best. This of course includes clothes, makeup, but also hairstyle! For this last point, allow us to make some suggestions.
“A well-chosen cut can add volume and structure to thin hair”informs Raphaël Perrier, artistic director, four-time world hairdressing champion (coach of the French team) and founder of the eponymous training academies and hairdressing salons. You are obviously free to decide what suits you best. However, it seems that after 50, one hairstyle in particular stands out. Why think about it? Slightly layered and textured, with highlights that frame the face, it softens the features and gives a fresh and lifting effect. So don’t wait, adopt the blurred/gradient square at chin height.
Don’t like this hairstyle? Our expert offers two other options: the unstructured pixie cut. It includes longer strands in the bangs area and tapered sides to add volume. Or, the curtain bangs with a mid-length bob (between the chin and the shoulders). The latter frames the face and adds volume.
It’s impossible to talk about hairstyles without talking about coloring. Indeed, around the age of 50, some people have gray hair and prefer to color it. Thus, Raphaël Perrier recommends favoring bright and natural colors. You can opt for soft highlights, highlights and warm shades to brighten up your complexion. However, avoid cold and overly ashy shades which give a bad look.
Finally, the artistic director specifies that, “no matter what cut you choose, healthy, shiny and well-maintained hair will always look much younger and fresher”. You will have understood, the main thing is to take care of your beautiful hair.
