Second-hand objects have never been so popular, but be careful, because everything cannot be bought used, especially with regard to it. What is it and why it is better to avoid this purchase? We tell you everything.
It is a fact: in France, the second hand is on the rise, whether clothes or objects asked for their cachet and their quality. Mistrust, however, because one of the most popular objects in flea market and on resale sites represents a health risk and you are told why it should not be purchased second -hand.
The nine no longer reigns supreme in front of the second hand, so that the stores and dedicated sites abound, with many finds to the key. The second -hand market attracts many French people for many reasons, starting with the sustainable and responsible aspect by offering a second life to an object. Authenticity is also a factor that weighs in the scale because a second -hand object stands out from a new room by its unique and singular side.
The dishes is notably one of the most popular parts in flea markets or on sites like Leboncoin, but be careful, because under its attractive style, vintage dishes can present health risks. Indeed, you should know that certain varnishes applied to dishes contain toxic heavy metals such as lead, which can be released when using dishes. The main risk is that these metals migrate into food and users ingest them, which can cause serious health consequences, especially in young children. Lead intoxication (Saturnism) is very serious and causes irreversible health problems such as anemia, digestive disorders or, in the most serious cases, damage to the nervous system.
This is why it is better to redouble their prudence as to the choice of vintage dishes that you buy used, in particular with regard to ceramic dishes made before the 70s, decorated porcelain, artisanal table in enameled terracotta, rooms with worn or partially erased decorations.
What solutions? Except to avoid buying “at risk” dishes, it is quite possible to test the lead content of your parts using a lead test kit. These kits, available in many hardware or online brands, are relatively affordable and will allow you to check in just a few minutes if your dishes contains or not lead.
