Researchers from the University of Essex have studied the perception of various trades by questioning hundreds of employees. The objective? Understand the criteria that make a job boring and analyze their impact on mental health. Indeed, if the burnout is well known, the boronor the exhaustion by boredom, is just as harmful. And for good reason, Repetitive tasks, lack of intellectual stimulation and social isolation are all factors of discomfort at work.
The results then highlighted a typical profile of the most annoyed worker (and perceived as the most boring). Among the most affected professions, we find taxes, bankers, but also insurers. Despite their importance in society and their sharp skills, these professions suffer from an unnay image. “Perhaps we should try not to upset these professions by stereotyping them as boring”, joke the researchers, while recognizing that these jobs lack opportunities to express their creativity.
The study stresses that these professions offer financial stability, but at the cost of a repetitive daily life, cloistered behind a screen, with few social interactions. This proves that a job can be very well paid without being valuing in the eyes of society. This is the case of data analysts, first in the most boring professions ranking!
The analysis of their lives, what they do at work and outside, actually depict a fairly monotonous portrait. And data analysts themselves would find it difficult to speak positively about their work. As you can see, although these profiles are essential to many sectors, from finance to technology, it would seem that their days are not so exciting.
However, this job can bring big: an experienced data analyst earns on average between 60,000 and 120,000 euros per year, with developments that can reach much more remunerative strategic positions. So, at what price would you be ready to die of boredom?
