And all drivers will say it: that famous deodorizing tree that has been hanging on the interior rearview mirror for ages will do nothing.
When temperatures drop, the problem persists even more: in wanting to conserve heat, we open the doors or windows less, and we end up creating a soft cocoon for bacteria and the bad odors that accompany them. The obvious solution is therefore to ventilate more regularly, a few minutes after each journey, even in cold weather, to renew the air and evacuate ambient humidity. But to guarantee a car that smells good in all circumstances, without chemical perfumes, there is a simple and inexpensive tip that few motorists think of.
This almost miraculous absorber is vegetable activated carbon. This solution is inexpensive, ecological, and acts as a real passive filter inside the vehicle. Activated carbon is known for its ability to trap humidity and molecules responsible for bad surrounding odors. You can therefore place a sachet in your car, under a seat, in the trunk, or in the door pockets, to purify the air throughout the car. Reusable for several months, simply place it in the sun to reactivate it once it saturates. And when its effectiveness decreases, don’t throw it in the trash: a flower pot will do just fine.
You can find them almost everywhere online, but also in organic grocery stores or herbalists, and even in most supermarkets. The price varies from one brand to another, but it generally costs less than ten euros for 150 grams. Not to be confused of course with capsules and other ingested products, used to regulate the digestive system in particular. You must therefore choose it in bulk, in breathable sachets or in sticks, for a car that is permanently free of unpleasant odors.
