Spending more than 90 euros per month for your Navigo pass, you could do without it. But now, a new advantage offered by Île-de-France Mobilités could make it possible to offset these costs… or even generate a profit. We’ll explain it to you.
At the start of the year, the news caused a stir in the corridors of the Paris metro: the price of the Navigo pass has increased again, going to 90.80 euros per month, or almost 1000 euros per year. And if price increases will be limited to 1% for another five years, the wallets of Ile-de-France residents will undoubtedly take a hit. So one thing is certain, any advantage is worth taking. And this is even more true for those who combine the costs of public transport and their personal vehicle.
Because if the Navigo pass allows you to travel via public transport throughout Île-de-France, some subscribers are forced to continue to travel by car regularly. Some areas remain poorly (if at all) served, and all metros, RERs or trams stop during the night: a real hassle for workers working odd hours, or residents of more isolated outskirts, who sometimes take their vehicle… to get to the nearest station and continue the journey by transport. While the region wants to reduce road traffic, both for the traffic itself and for the ecological approach, Île-de-France Mobilités has therefore launched a new service which changes everything for holders of Navigo monthly, annual or imagine R tickets.
From now on, it is possible to travel by carpool… for free. The service is offered to passengers, up to two journeys per day. This concerns journeys of between 2 and 80 kilometers, whose departure and arrival are in Île-de-France (excluding Paris intramuros), and which do not follow an already existing and functional transport line. But for drivers, it’s even better: the journeys are paid. The driver receives 2 euros per passenger for journeys of less than 20 kilometers, then an additional 10 cents per kilometer (up to 30 kilometers). The grant is not unlimited, but can still bring in a nice sum at the end of the month: “Financial support from Île-de-France Mobilités is capped at €200 per month and a maximum of 4 journeys per day”specifies the official site. For example, if you take two passengers on your journey to work, in the morning and evening from Monday to Friday, you will earn 160 euros.
This subsidized carpooling service is available via the “Covoit IDFM” mobile application, but very few Navigo subscribers know about it: around 50,000 people are registered, among the more than two million Navigo ticket holders. It must be said that this advantage is very recent: the application has only existed since December 2025, while free carpooling has only been offered since February 10, 2026. But Île-de-France Mobilités has not communicated on this subject on a large scale, the option remains unknown among residents of the Paris region.
