“At the last moment I chicken out” : which artist refused to become a coach in The Voice ?
Guest on March 22 in The Good Sunday ShowBruno Guillon’s show on RTL, singer Christophe Maé revealed that he had been approached by the teams of The Voice. The 50-year-old artist, who has just released his eighth studio album titled Funfaireven discussed it with one of his accomplices, Florent Pagny, who holds the record for years as a juror in the famous TF1 show. “Juror in ‘The Voice’ you see… Last year I was on the phone with Florent Pagny: ‘Okay, you come, you sit down, we’ll do that'”first told the man who is about to go on tour throughout France. And the interpreter of Beautiful lady to let go: “And at the last moment I said: ‘No, I have to concentrate on my album.’ I didn’t go there.”
“But wasn’t it the anxiety of having to judge young singers?”asked his host. To which Christophe Maé responded frankly: “There’s also that. Well after the legitimacy, I think I have it today, to arrive, sit down and then be in the transmission. It’s just magnificent you see! But it wasn’t yet time for me. But it’s true that at the last moment I chicken out…”
“It’s not something that would have made me happy” : this other adventure refused by the singer
This is not the only adventure that Jules and Marcel’s father refused this year. In fact, the singer said no to the return of Sun Kingthe musical comedy that made him known twenty years ago. The one who will soon have three Accor Arenas in Paris preferred to give up his place to Louis Delort. “Doing again what I did twenty years before, it’s not something that would have made me happy”he told Ciné Télé Revue. Before explaining: “I take so much pleasure in writing my own songs… And then, anyway, there was the release of my album and the tour that will follow. Dove Attia didn’t offer it to me. He knew that my schedule was full”.
However, Christophe Maé did not fail to support his former comrades. “I went to the premiere in Paris and I found it successful. They revisited the show, updated it, more modern, with screens. I found that Emmanuel Moire has not moved. He’s the Sun King!”he proclaimed. Before supporting his successor: “I think he’s doing really well. I really did it by feeling. I was allowed to make this role my own. But Louis does it in his own way and he does it really well”.
