All French people can do it and it only takes a few minutes.
There is nothing worse than seeing a salty bill arriving at the end of the year, especially when it could have been avoided. In general, at this time of year, the budget is already well underway, between the cost of Christmas gifts, any trips planned for holidays and unforeseen expenses in everyday life. Then finding yourself to take out a large sum at once can quickly unbalance finances, forcing to draw in savings or worse, to finish the month in the red. However, this is what happens to many people every year with the property tax of their accommodation.
Their wrong? Do not have anticipated this expense while a simple solution exists: monthly payment. In France, it is possible to spread the payment of a tax over the year instead of paying everything in one go. Concretely, the sum due is divided into 10 monthly payments taken automatically, from January to October, and this, 15 of each month. This principle of monthly payment concerns property tax, but also housing tax on secondary residences and property wealth tax (IFI). Each monthly payment corresponds to a tenth of the tax calculated on the previous year. If you have been too much taken, the refund is made automatically in your bank account.
But then when should you make your choice? There is of course a deadline to be respected so that the tax administration can update your file. This year, you must make your choice before June 30, 2025. This is “Deadline for membership of the monthly levy for 2025”, Indicates the tax site, before specifying that: “The 1ᵉʳ sample will take place from the 15th of the following month.” After this date, it’s too late, it will take a year to be able to benefit from the monthly payment.
To make your request for monthly payment, it is rather simple, you must have your tax number, your tax notice reference and your RIB. Then, the request can be made online directly on the tax site.gouv.fr or by contacting the Department Service Center (CPS) by email, telephone or mail.
