Amel Bent is back in the new season of “The Voice” and she will soon be going on tour throughout France. But did you know that the singer had long dreamed of pursuing a completely different profession, unexpected to say the least?
Revealed in 2004 by telecrochet New Star on M6, Amel Bent then shattered all records with her now legendary title: My Philosophy. In more than twenty years of career, the singer, now 40 years old, has carved out a special place for herself in the hearts of the French!
Amel Bent wanted to do an astonishing job: “It was the only thing I was passionate about.”
And this year, she joined the famous red armchairs of The Voice alongside Lara Fabian, Florent Pagny and Tayc. But the juror of this fifteenth season did not always dream of being a singer. When she was younger, she wanted to pursue a completely different profession… improbable to say the least! Questioned by our colleagues from TV Magazinethe one who will take the stage of the Accor Arena in Paris on April 29, explained that if her musical career had not taken off, she would have liked to become a profiler. “My teachers and parents thought it was as likely as winning the lottery or going to space”she quipped. Before justifying: “There were only two profilers in France at the time, including a Belgian”.
“After seeing the movie ‘The Silence of the Lambs,’ it became a revelation. I wanted to go work at Quantico and become an FBI agent. It was either I became Celine Dion or Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster.”she even added. “I was going to college at the time and people were asking me what I wanted to do in life, and it was really the only thing I was passionate about.”she had already announced on the microphone of NRJ in 2019.
Amel Bent destabilized by music? “The more I did castings, the more I put myself in danger”
The young woman was truly motivated: “I had sworn to myself to be the next French female profiler. I had really researched it. So I had to go to psychology school, do a DESS in criminology, a specialization… And become a police officer!” But, very quickly, Amel Bent, who was always brilliant in class, was overtaken by her passion for music. “I was always first in class but the more I did castings, the more I put myself in danger”she admitted.
And to the mother of three children (Sofia, Hana and Zayn), to confide: “‘Nouvelle Star’ arrived the year of the baccalaureate and I got it in the remedial course. I had a tendency to experience things at 2000 miles per hour: when I was angry, I was very angry, and when I was sad, I was very sad… Everything was exacerbated. My mother understood that music managed to channel me”.
