It contains 3 times more antioxidants than green tea.
Coronary diseases, caused by the narrowing of arteries, are the leading cause of hospitalization of cardiovascular origin in 45-85 year olds in France. They can cause heart attacks. Maintaining healthy arteries and balanced cholesterol levels is not just a question of sport and medication. Certain fruits and vegetables, consumed in the form of drinks, conceal treasures of antioxidants whose effectiveness to protect blood vessels is spectacularly proven.
Renowned researchers, including Professor Michael Aviram of the Technion-Inrael, conducted a clinical study to test this hypothesis. They demonstrated that a special drink was capable of attacking the atherosclerosis plate accumulated in the arteries. Their method: observe patients with arterial narrowing and measure the progression of this plate. Their conclusions are final: the drink has succeeded in reducing the oxidation of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and even reducing the thickness of the existing plate, according to the results of the study published in the journal Nutrition Clinical.
This “super-just” is none other than pomegranate juice. Its richness in polyphenols gives it antioxidant power up to three times that of green tea or red wine. To observe significant effects on reducing blood pressure and attenuation of the progression of the plate, a single glass (about 240 ml) of pure (not sweet) juice per day was sufficient for the patients tested. The researchers suggest, for example, to replace their orange juice in the morning with grenade juice.
If these results are promising, pomegranate juice should be consumed with discernment. If you already follow a treatment for cholesterol or high blood pressure, it is imperative to talk to your doctor or cardiologist. Indeed, its powerful effects, especially on the reduction of blood pressure, can interact with certain drugs. Granada juice is an excellent complement, but it never replaces medical advice.
