The ski wardrobe is no longer limited to the mountains and this sport. She made her way into the street. Decryption.
It’s finally ski season. The biggest fans of snowy slopes will finally be able to hit the slopes. It’s also time to put on your most beautiful jumpsuits. But not just in the mountains anymore! The ski locker room now invites itself into the street.
Clothes originally invented for skiing have found their place in the daily wardrobe of fashionistas. This is the case with earmuffs, for example. This invention by Chester Greenwood, dating from the end of the 20th century, was born from a problem he encountered on the ice. One day, while skating, his sensitive ears hurt so much that he asked his grandmother to protect them with fur. This is how the earmuffs were born. Today, we find it in several models and colors!
Another key ski accessory that is increasingly appearing on the city streets: the faux fur chapka or bucket hat. Moon boots, these large boots that offer warmth and stability on the snow, can also be worn every day, and not just in the mountains! Jacquemus recently launched a collaboration with the Italian brand, presenting two boots, one inspired by yeti feet – long in white faux fur, and the other short in mohair.
In terms of clothing, the down jacket has been part of our wardrobe for several years now. However, originally, it was a garment intended to keep warm during mountain expeditions. Depending on the country, the invention is attributed to three men: the Australian and French mountaineers George Finch, in 1922, and Lionel Terry, in the 1950s, as well as the American Eddie Bauer, in 1936, who thought of it during of a fishing trip. What do they have in common? They were all cold. This invention then made its way to the podium of the biggest houses: Balenciaga, Maison Margiela, Alexander McQueen, Isabel Marant…
Fashion brands are increasingly incorporating the ski wardrobe into their collections. This is the case for Zara, which has dedicated an entire collection to ski equipment. On the program: gloves, down jackets, waterproof pants, windbreakers, thermal t-shirts and even ski suits.
Very quickly, the new clothing line was a huge success. All fashionistas have tried their hand at the brand’s new minimalist and elegant designs. The collection would have exceeded their expectations. It would be of good quality and perfect for everyday use as well as for a trip to the mountains!
Skims – Kim Kardashian’s brand – has also invested in the skier’s wardrobe by collaborating with North Face for an equally minimalist clothing line, combining style and technique.
