And it can also weaken bones.

Who has not already taken vitamins to improve their form or boost their immune defenses? Taking food supplements is a reflex that many have, especially at certain periods of the year more difficult than others. At the entrance to winter for example or between spring and summer. However, be careful. If the punctual socket of vitamins can do good to the body, it should never be abused and respect the doses at the risk that they damage the organism. A doctor recently made a warning concerning a very popular vitamin potentially bad for the heart.

This vitamin is one of the most important for the body. It increases the concentrations of calcium and phosphorus in the blood and participates in the mineralization of bones, cartilage and teeth. But too consuming it can cause hypercalcemia and “Very high levels of calcium in the blood can cause a weakening of the bones “ Prevents Dr. Sooj, doctor and emergency artist at the English health service of the NHS, in a Tiktok video. In the long run, hypercalcemia increases the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. “It can also damage your heart and your kidneys” continues the doctor. An excess of this vitamin can cause heart rate disorders and go as far as sudden death.

You may have recognized it, this is vitamin D. Too large vitamin D “The reabsorption of calcium”responsible for hypercalcemia. It is therefore better to maximize its contributions naturally thanks to sufficient daily exposure to sunlight. Count between at least 15 and 30 minutes a day. On the plate, fatty fish (herring, sardines, salmon, mackerel), dairy products enriched with vitamin D, mushrooms (especially chanterelles), egg yolks, butter or cocoa are among the foods richest in vitamin D.

If you have to supplement yourself with vitamin D, respect the dosages indicated on the notice and/or ask for advice from a pharmacist or doctor. In France, the nutritional reference for the population is 15 micrograms of vitamin D per day for adults. For Dr Sooj, “Babies of less than a year should not receive more than 1,000 international units (…) per day, which corresponds to 25 micrograms. Children between 1 and 10 years old should not receive more than 2,000 units per day (50 micrograms). Everything else: children from 11 years old and adults, including pregnant and lactating women, should not have more than 4,000 international units per day over an extended period (100 micrograms) “.
