Bad stock market times for the creator of the Final Fantasy video game franchise. This Tuesday, the Japanese publisher Square Enix saw its price fall by almost 16% on the Tokyo market. This is its heaviest decline recorded in one session in the last thirteen years. Since the end of February, the capitalization of the Japanese group has fallen by 25%, to 3.8 billion euros.
The reason for these stock market crashes? The performances of several Square Enix blockbusters were below those initially announced by the latter and lower than those expected by the financial markets. Particularly “Final Fantasy XVI”, “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” and “Foamstars” – three titles marketed during the last fiscal year of Square Enix which closed its financial accounts delayed at the end of March and published its annual accounts at the start week.
