Could this new device be the ideal alternative to injections, to plump up lips from home? Here’s the answer!
LED masks are everywhere. Their promises? A radiant, even complexion, boosted collagen and elastin production thanks to daily use. Something to dream about. But for some time now, brands have increasingly been launching into the creation of models specially designed for the lips and the contours of the mouth. In this area, the skin is particularly thin and sensitive, making it even more vulnerable to collagen loss, damage that can be caused by free radicals and premature aging.Professional-grade, at-home devices are the next big thing in lip care. It’s completely painless and… a natural way to plump lips and reverse the signs of aging all over your mouth.“, explains Dr. Denis Gross to the American magazine Byrdie.
So how do these LED lip masks work? Different wavelengths penetrate the lip area. Some provide essential nutrients for cell renewal, while others stimulate it and improve circulation. The key? Fuller, smoother lips, an even color and a reduction in wrinkles around the mouth. All by using the device for between three and five minutes a day depending on the brand. The results are generally visible after several weeks of rigorous use. But what is it really? I tested the LED Lip Perfector device from the CurrentBody brand, a specialist in beauty tech. Here is my opinion.
So, does it really work?
Before I start my story, it is important to clarify that I have fairly thin lips. So I am obsessed with any technology that can plump them up without going through the injection stage (a step I am afraid to take). I also tend to have very dry lips, summer and winter. So, when I was able to get my hands on the CurrentBody device, my hopes were high. The instrument comes in a small plastic bell to protect it from dust, and comes with a charger. It has a small tab to put inside the mouth to hold it and have your hands free. Rather practical when you are in a hurry in the morning for example. The treatment lasts three minutes each day and therefore fits easily into a busy schedule. The process is completely painless, only a slight heat on the lips is felt.
After several weeks of daily use, I really noticed an improvement in lip hydration. No need to apply balm multiple times during the day. My skin no longer feels tight and a real feeling of comfort has set in. Proof of its effectiveness, during my vacation I did not take it with me (its small size makes it easy to slip into the suitcase), after a few days of break the feeling of tightness in my lips came back at a gallop.
But let’s move on to the chapter that interests you the most: do LED masks really increase lip volume? Well yes! The hydration and the boost in collagen production will give the mouth a plumped up and therefore a little “fuller” look. After a while, I noticed that my upper lip was a little more voluminous than usual. On the other hand, you shouldn’t expect a drastic change. The result is quite subtle compared to injections. But, the result lasts as long as you use the device. Much longer than invasive methods. My advice for lips to die for? After the treatment, apply a hyaluronic acid serum to the lips, then a nourishing balm. Wake up with a hydrated and luscious mouth guaranteed!
