Spotlight on a cult object, which we hid yesterday for fear of bad taste and which has once again established itself as the centerpiece of the most envied tables of the season. Between 70s nostalgia and organic elegance, discover which retro treasure collectors are crazy about, and us too!

It’s the prerogative of fashion but also that of decoration, everything goes away and everything ends up coming back: what made the previous generation roll their eyes becomes, years later, the absolute holy grail of Sunday bargain hunters. We saw the return of rattan, the invasion of corduroy in winter, the obsession with tomato patterns this summer and the consecration of travertine. But if there is one object that seemed condemned to oblivion, hidden at the bottom of a dark dresser at an old provincial aunt’s house, it is this one.

Long associated with endless family lunches and a slightly dated ’70s aesthetic, this accessory is undergoing a spectacular image makeover. Forget the canteen aspect or the kitsch side that we avoided just five years ago. At a time when decoration is still largely dominated by white and minimalism that is sometimes a little cold, we have a visceral need to find relief, a story and above all, color!

On Instagram as on Pinterest, the most scrutinized interiors are abandoning clinical transparency for a more organic approach. We look for the imperfection, the warm reflection, the little touch that recounts a childhood memory while being in keeping with the times. This is where our closet survivor makes a remarkable and noticeable comeback on the trendiest tables of the moment.

Amber lenses, driven by the wave of mid-century modern style and the return to earthy colors, are the new favorites of design enthusiasts. Whether they are the famous table services in smoked or amber glass (vintage Duralex type) or artisanal creations, they bring immediate warmth to a refined table. They advantageously replace classic transparent glass in the most sophisticated interiors, creating plays of golden light as soon as the sun shines through.

If you don’t have the patience to search garage sales at dawn, decoration brands have already sniffed out the trend by reissuing these iconic pieces. Where to find your future essentials for a table with character? At Zara Home, for carafes and glasses with clean lines and honey shades. Sometimes in collaboration with designers, Monoprix offers very accessible amber sets. At Mango Home, you will find textured glasses that play on seventies nostalgia. Last but not least, at Duralex, which continues to produce its iconic “Picardie” or “Gigogne” models in comforting shades. The hardest part will be not to fall for the plates that go with it!
