Chloé Mortaud, aka Miss France 2009, has reinvented herself away from the cameras. Based in Los Angeles, the former beauty queen now works in a totally unexpected profession… and the antithesis of the catwalks. What happened to her?
Chloé Mortaud made her mark in the history of Miss France by succeeding Valérie Bégue as beauty queen in December 2008. But unlike other Miss France who continued their path in the media as a presenter, journalist or even influencer, this native of Calvados decided to lead an existence far from the cameras. The beauty queen, now 36 years old, even lives abroad now.
Chloé Mortaud: this new profession that Miss France 2009 exercises far from France
After becoming Miss France 2009, then fifth runner-up to Miss Universe and third runner-up to Miss World, Chloé Mortaud slipped away from media life. She has only made brief public appearances, notably in 2015 when she was a member of the jury for the Miss France 2016 election or in 2018 as a commentator on the Miss Universe competition for Paris Première.
The one who was born to an American mother and part of whose family lives in California crossed the Atlantic and has been living in the United States for several years, where she has undertaken multiple projects. In 2018, she founded her brand of cosmetics produced from Provençal plants, Mademoiselle Provence. But recently, she sold her business. And her daily life has changed again since Chloé Mortaud has launched into a completely different profession in Los Angeles, supported by her Belgian-American husband, Dean David Neiger: that of a florist!
Chloé Mortaud, fulfilled mother: “I asked myself what made me happy”
“I asked myself what really made me happy. The answer was simple: flowers (…) I needed to refocus, to do something concrete, sensory“, she confided to Parisian. Passionate about flowers, she has her floral workshop called Fleurs by Chloé, in Los Angeles. She is regularly called upon as a “flower designer” for communication campaigns for major brands such as Sézane, Detox Market and Marco Bicego.
This profession which fulfills him today gives him the feeling of “reconnect to your roots” : “My mother passed on to me the love of flowers. She talked to me about perfumes, colors, she made me smell them. It was a ritual. My dad was an agricultural advisor. I have uncles who are farmers, my grandmother had an orchard. I grew up in contact with the earth“.
In addition to her job as a florist, Chloé Mortaud is also the mother of three children, Matis, 12, born from her former romance with French racing driver Romain Thievin, Maeva, 3 years old, and Nathanael, 11 months old, both fruits of her love with Dean David Neiger.
