Thai massage is not new: this therapy was born 2,500 years ago in India, and not in Thailand! There are two styles of Thai massage: the style of the court and the style of the people. For the first, the masseur only uses the thumbs to perform manipulations, while the second is based on the use of elbows, knees and feet in addition to thumbs.
In both cases, it is a question of extending the muscles to release tensions and muscles and minds! It is a passive moment for the customer who only has to relax, but it is very physical for the masseur. This consists of strong pressures – this is called acupressure: it is like acupuncture, but without needles – and very delicate gestures that only tread the skin.
But what is it for? Like any discipline of massage therapy, Thai massage makes it possible to remove its anxieties and induce a state of general well-being thanks to this moment of awakening of psychocorporeal consciousness. It therefore also has positive effects on the body because it promotes the relaxation of muscles, good digestion, elimination of toxins and the proper functioning of vital organs. These manipulations are therefore part of a vision of health based on the proper use of the energy available to the body.
Concretely, how is a Thai massage going?
Already, you should know that you are dressed for the duration of the procedure, so you have to wear loose, flexible and comfortable clothes. There is no risk of having massage oil on your clothes because the manipulations are done without, thanks to the only force of the masseur. We lie on a mattress or a futon on the ground and we relax: we will be there for at least two, even three hours! It may seem long, but it is the time recommended to reach the state of relaxation necessary for the relaxation of muscles and minds.
The massage starts with the feet, a zone which reflects the state of the rest of the body well and which indicates to the masseur how to proceed later. Then alternate moments of strong pressure and light gestures. You will be asked after a few minutes if the strength of manipulations suits you. As you go, the masseur has the customer adopted the positions derived from yoga, while alternating delicate gestures and stronger movements. There is no need to be particularly flexible to experience all the benefits of Thai massage, because the vigor of the movements as well as the level of flexibility required for each position adapt according to the customer. This massage is used to improve flexibility and blood circulation, not to give you aches! That goes without saying: how to relax and refocus your energy if you suffer in silence?
