Combining thermal comfort and low bills: this is the promise of the connected thermostat. But is the investment really worth it? Operation, cost, eligibility and financial aid… We take stock of everything you need to know before taking the plunge.

More than just a trend, the connected thermostat is revolutionizing the way we heat. Massively adopted by professionals and individuals alike, this small, intelligent box promises to transform your comfort. But how does it actually control your radiators? And what are the pitfalls to avoid? Dive into the heart of a system that could soon become mandatory.

What is a connected thermostat?

Just like a classic thermostat, a connected thermostat is a piece of equipment used to regulate and maintain the temperature of a home. The only difference is that a connected version can control a heating system remotely via a WiFi network using a web or mobile application.

How does it work?

This system is made up of 3 elements:

  • A housing to be fixed to the wall, which displays the different thermostat modes (room temperature, set temperature, programs, time, etc.)
  • A electrical relayor the part communicating with the heating system which receives instructions from the box via a radio signal to adjust and maintain the desired temperature
  • A control tool (software or application), which allows you to control the system remotely using a computer or smartphone

Connected thermostat: advantages and disadvantages

THE main advantages of the connected thermostat are:

  • Optimal comfort by offering an ideal temperature according to everyone’s needs and desires
  • Energy savings by adapting to your lifestyle and weather conditions, because depending on the model, certain connected thermostats have the ability to reduce heating as soon as the mercury rises
  • A simple and practical use wherever you are thanks to the control tool

Even if the connected thermostat is very advantageous on many points, it nevertheless presents some disadvantages :

  • He is more expensive than a classic model
  • Her interface requires a little agility at the start
  • Like any technological object, it can break down or present malfunctions

How much does a connected thermostat cost?

The generally observed price of a connected thermostat ranges between 50 euros for basic models and 400 euros for the most elaborate systems. This price takes into account the brand and features of the device and does not include the price of installation by a professional which costs on average 50 euros.

Who can equip themselves with a connected thermostat?

Everyone can equip themselves with a connected thermostat, whether you are a professional or an individual. In addition, this system is eligible for financial aid such as VAT at 5.5% and the enhanced EEC premium.
