The cinema as a tool to positively contribute to the openness and self-esteem of people with disabilities by presenting them to the world no longer just as a problem. The New Film Festivalan international competition of short films performed by people with disabilities created by APS Romeo Della Bella and Mediafriends with the support of Fondazione Allianz Umana Mente, reaches its 13th edition this year. Bergamo continues to be the host city and permanent headquarters of the Festival, a choice that is also renewed in light of the success achieved with the 12th edition in 2022, and will be animated by the spirit of demonstration on the evenings of September 25, 26 and 27.
The first two evenings will be dedicated to the screening of the finalist short films, selected from over 170 in competition for this edition, and will be held at the Cinema Conca Verde, one of the city’s historic structures capable of hosting around three hundred spectators.
The final evening, in the splendid setting of the Donizetti Theatre, will be dedicated to the awarding of the winning short films, chosen by a Jury composed of presidents of non-profit organizations, university professors of Cinema, famous directors, film critics and specialized journalists.
During the evening, the awards for best actor/actress, best direction, best screenplay, best music, best photography, best editing will also be presented.in addition to the special prizes established by the Allianz UMana Mente Foundation and the Don Gnocchi Foundation. The winners will be awarded prizes by personalities from the world of entertainment and the Third Sector.
From this edition the Festival del Cinema Nuovo continues to increase its international reach: in addition to the participation of 15 foreign short films in competition, the Festival has undertaken a project of collaboration and exchange with other international film events that deal with the theme of disability, gathering the interest of over 6 Festivals around the world interested in building a long-lasting partnership – including the Leuven Disability Film Festival (Belgium), Art without Limit International Film Festival (Kosovo), Oska Bright Film Festival (UK), Feciso Festival (Spain), Superfest International Disability Film Festival (USA), Reel Abilities Film Festival (USA).
