When she is not on the benches of the National Assembly, or in her campaign office in Toulon, Laure Lavalette takes care of her large family. She is indeed the mother of five children, including a young girl with Down syndrome.

At almost 50 years old – a milestone she will pass next April – Laure Lavalette is a political figure on the rise, especially in the ranks of her party, the National Rally. MP for Var since 2022, she recently engaged in the municipal battle in Toulon, her adopted city after her marriage, where she qualified for the second round. Laure Lavalette therefore has no time to be bored, especially since things are moving at home too.

Laure Lavalette had “five children in seven years” : “It was sport”

It must be said that the politician is the mother of an XXL family! “Five children in seven years so it was sport”she told BFMTV. And to declare, in the columns of Figaro : “Nothing scares me. I gave birth without an epidural”. Obviously very divisive because of her personal battles – she firmly opposes GPA, PMA and abortion while attacking the passage “to LGBT propaganda” as related The World in a portrait – this practicing Catholic does not hesitate to speak publicly about what is close to her heart.

“My dear left-wing colleagues, let women be free to have the number of children they want”for example, she declared to the National Assembly. Before claiming: “It is obviously also up to the State to ensure that families can economically have the number of children they want”.

Making the traditional family her hobby horse, she also praised the merits of having children in politics during a podcast: “The people who run us overall don’t have any. Emmanuel Macron doesn’t have children, he isn’t rooted. (…) It actually changes everything. Already because you have roots, ultimately passing on life is the most beautiful thing. And then it allows you to be anchored, to have your feet on the ground. I can tell you that I’m on my third ParcourSup, I can explain to you why it was rubbish.”

Laure Lavalette and her daughter’s disability: “I can tell you that there is a six-month wait”

What also anchors Laure Lavalette in reality is the fact of being the mother of a young girl with Down syndrome about whom she speaks little. The far-right candidate for mayor of Toulon, however, made a few exceptions to denounce a situation. “I have a young daughter who is disabled, I can tell you that there is a six-month wait at the Departmental House for Disabled People. And when you experience all that, it actually speaks to people”she had for example recounted in The Eventon France 2.

And she regularly raises the subject of disability in the National Assembly. She voted in favor of the bill aimed at strengthening the protection of families of children suffering from a serious illness or disability, which notably provided for better protection against dismissal for the parents concerned. “Behind the numbers of pending MDPH cases, there are mothers who cry, children who do not go to school and families who are falling apart. Disability should no longer be a double administrative penalty“, she declared.
