In October 2023 the world of Hollywood was shocked by terrible news, that of the death of Matthew Perrya well-known actor who conquered the spotlight thanks to the success of the sitcom which was popular all over the world, Friends. His passing came like a bolt from the blue in the world of cinema, especially due to the dynamics linked to it. The American was found lifeless in the jacuzzi of his home in Los Angeles. But what led to Perry’s death? We immediately understand that he had not simply drowned in the jacuzzi, but that the real primary cause is linked to an overdose of ketamine.
The hand that delivered Perry the fatal dose was that of Jasveen Sangha. If your mind travels imagining a drug dealer from the slums you are completely off-track. 42 years old, well-groomed, luxurious lifestyle: this was the image that Sangha gave. The reality of the facts is that he could afford this lifestyle thanks to the money deriving from the large drug ring he had set up among the VIPs of the City of Angels.
It was aimed at a high-level clientele: anyone who sought it did so to find discretion, (apparent) quality and a certain criminal status. Her portrait is made of striking contrasts: on the one hand, the sophisticated and cosmopolitan woman who frequents the right places in Los Angeles; on the other, the ruthless drug dealer who, as the world mourned Perry, it worried about how to protect his inventory of thousands of methamphetamine, cocaine and Xanax pills.
The seller of death initially denied all charges, only to later recant and plead guilty. This admission allowed her to avoid the maximum sentence – 65 years in prison – resulting in a 15-year sentence. The charges he is guilty of are: distribution of ketamine resulting in death (linked to the Perry affair), management of a place used for drug dealing activities (the house in North Hollywood) and illegal distribution of substances.
The affair linked to the sentence had an enormous impact on the sentence Cody McLaury. In 2019, Sangha had sold the man ketamine, which led to his death a few hours later the hiring. What is striking is the lack of remorse shown by the inmate. While she was in prison awaiting trial, it emerged that Sangha was more concerned with how to capitalize on the story in the media (trying to register trademarks or obtain editorial rights on the case) than with the pain caused to the victims’ families.
